Hollyburn Sew-Along - Badge and Dates!

I'm excited to have received such a positive response to my Hollyburn sew-along announcement the other day! Thanks everyone!! Today I have a sew-along badge and some other information to share with you.

You can see above a slightly larger version, and below a smaller one. Please feel free to grab one of the images if you want to post about it on your blog or elsewhere on the internets. If you want to make the image link to anywhere I suggest using the following link to the sew-along page, which I will update with all the sew-along posts as they're posted: http://mymessings.blogspot.com.au/p/sewalongs.html.

I also thought I'd share with you all my rough thoughts of timescale for the sew-along. I am currently planning on starting at the beginning of January with some inspiration and fabric choice posts, with some pattern prep and adjustment posts the second week of January. This should then lead into beginning sewing around the 21st of January, giving us two weeks to sew the skirts and hopefully have the skirts to share for the beginning of February. How does that sound to you guys?

As this is a beginner pattern, I was going to err on the side of including more information in my posts (or in some cases links to better information than I could put together) to try and support beginner sewers.

Please let me know what you think, I am very keen for feedback so I can make this (my first) sew-along as great as possible!

Missed any of the sew-along posts, or just want to re-read them? You can find the full list here.

  1. Inspiration and fabric choice posts are a GREAT idea. I am waiting for a fabric that I think I might use for this skirt, but that may change if I don't like the fabric (ordered online). I did make a denim version using the Lonsdale pattern, I just have to finish the hem. Beginning on the 21st sounds good to me ~ gives me plenty of time to sew up a couple of tops to go with the skirt!

    1. Thanks for the feedback! So many fabrics to choose from too! I'm tempted to choose fabric simply based on the fabric I already have planned to become another Pendrell blouse - would that be wrong?!

  2. I'm so excited, I'd LOVE to join the sewalong! I'm in the UK and pre-ordered the pattern last night, then saw your posts. It should get here on time. It's the first sewalong I'll be following, I've been waiting for ages for the right one. Your skirt is beautiful!

    1. Hooray! I hope that my sew-along will live up to being your first sew-along! The skirt will be great for UK winter - in a nice warm wool or something similar with boots, so cozy!

    2. I'm waiting for my pattern too in the UK - it should be a late Christmas present, if it gets here in time, I'll join as well. Oh, the fabric shopping should be great fun... and it'll be my first sew-along too. Very exciting! Thea

    1. I'm sure you'll find something! Mine is wool and is toasty warm... not that it actually gets that cold here

  7. Hi Rachel,

I would like to join the sew-along as well as I need summer skirts. Did you melt yesterday? I was sewing simple fabric bags in the craft room in my bungalow and it was so hot as I just have ceiling fans in both rooms. I went inside in the evening to cool off in the a/c.

I just ordered my pattern from SewSquirrel and will check my stash to see what I can use.

    Thanks for hosting the sew-along.

    1. it was quite hot wasn't it! I prefer hot weather to cold though, so you won't hear complaints from me! I'm excited that you're joining us :)
