(Audio)Book Recommendations?

I got a subscription to Audible for my Birthday, but I'm completely overwhelmed and have no idea what audiobooks to get. So I was hoping someone might have some suggestions.

So far I've gotten a fair few audiobooks out the library, ranging from trashy "chick lit" to some non-fiction stuff, so am open to a range of different things. Basically I'm after anything that's easy to listen to, but interesting, but doesn't require too much thinking.

So, does anyone please have any suggestions?

  1. Ohh - how exciting for you. I *love* audiobooks. I get all of mine through the library.

Recommendations - well - it really depends on what you like to read. There are so many good ones to choose from. And there are a lot of not so good ones.

My to go choices are ...
1 - the entire Harry Potter series read by Jim Dale *fantastic* (nuff said)
2 - Ultimate book "I have only one choice to read the rest of my life" Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.
3 - Gruesome mysteries: the series by Chelsea Cain (female serial killer)
4 - Fun, laugh out loud book: Christopher Moore's "A Dirty Job" (gonzo fiction)
5 - "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman. Good story.
6 - Non-fiction? Carol Burnett's memoir "This Time Together" or Ruth Reichl's "Garlic and Sapphires" (she was the NYT restaurant reviewer.)
7 - Love precocious kids? the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley or the Penderwick Chronicles by Jeanne Birdsall

I could go on and on. So visit goodreads.com; I've linked my acct in my name and choose my audiobook shelf. (It's like facebook for books.)

  2. "This Time Together" was not only a wonderful story, but a great insight to the many trials that an actress like Carol Burnett would face not only during her career, but after it as well. Carol Burnett, well known for her careers as an actress of both film and stage as well as TV, where her fame became nationwide. It discusses many of the events that took place during her life as a struggling actress, and even covers the years after she retired from the Carol Burnett Show after eleven seasons. Its main points discuss the awkward moments of her life, such as meeting famous actors that she knew in childhood or dealing with problems from her career.
