Hollyburn Sew-Along - Pattern Alteration - Removing The Pockets
Welcome to the next post in the Hollyburn Sew-Along! Incase you've missed any, here are the posts we've had so far:

- Changing the Length
- An Interview with Tasia
Today's post is the first of a few posts about pattern alterations, and is a quick one - a tutorial on how to remove the pockets. You'll need to do this if you either want to make a skirt without the pockets (or different pockets), or want to line the skirt - this pattern piece without the pocket will be your lining pattern piece.
You'll need two pattern pieces for this alteration; the skit front for the view you're making (piece 1, 3 or 5), and the pocket (piece 7)
What we're going to do is 'fill in' the chopped off corner at the top-side corner of the skirt front piece:
So first you'll need to stick some extra paper to that corner (or don't cut out the pattern piece quite yet) like below:
Now carefully line up the pocket pattern piece over the skirt front piece, making sure that you match up the notches:
Now trace around the edge of the skirt piece. Remember to mark the notch near the side of the upper edge of the pattern piece:
And cut out along the line you just traced:
That was pretty painless wasn't it!
As usual, any questions please let me know! Are you planning on removing the pockets or adding a lining to your skirt?

I'm planning on removing the pockets as I never use them and they'll probably add a little bulk around my hips where I don't really need any help with that LOL. Unfortunately my pattern hasn't arrived yet so hopefully it will next week so I can start working on my pattern. At least I've got my fabric all picked out and ready to go and I can keep reading the sew-along posts and will be able to jump straight in when I have my hot little pattern in my hands :)
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on lining my skirt since the fabric is pretty sheer so this is very useful. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAs of yesterday (when I couldn't choose between 2 possible fabrics) I'm making 2 skirts! At least one if them will be lined, so I'd better prepare my new pattern piece. Thanks Rach!
